Adella was born May 10, 1936 in Venus, Nebraska the daughter of Louis and Dorothy (Buerkley) Sukup. During the dust bowl, Adella moved to Iowa in 1938 with her older brother Eugene when her parents had the opportunity to rent a farm. The family eventually purchased a farm near Hansell where she was raised and attended school. When her parents worked in the fields she would be responsible for the noon meal and would then help in the fields later in the day. In 1952, she attended Wartburg College, Waverly, where she met her husband Clyde Culp who was stationed at the Air Force Base near Waverly. To this union 4 children were born. The military family moved over the years from Roswell, New Mexico to Cheyenne, Wyoming, and to Great Falls, Montana. Adella would attend her son’s baseball games and enjoyed sewing matching shirts for them so she could identify her kids from the other children. In 1972 the family moved back to Iowa where Adella opened a restaurant in Sheffield known as Culp’s Chuckwagon. When the “regulars” walked into the café, Della would greet them with a hot cup of coffee and a freshly made donut. Over the years, Della was known for her hearty laughter and the blue plate special she would serve to her customers. She owned and operated the café for 15 years. In many ways, Adella gave to others both in her restaurant and in the health care field where she worked as a nursing assistant. In 1990, Adella met a co-worker, Bill White whom she later married October 1, 1991. Bill and Adella spent the last 12 winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. Adella volunteered at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa Birth Center where she knit stocking caps. She also volunteered for different Christian Mission organizations. A few of her interests included crocheting, cooking, and baking. Adella is survived by her husband, Willis “Bill” White of Mason City; children, Kenneth (Holly) Culp of Swisher, Iowa, David (Candyce) Culp of Arcola, Illinois, Susan Hannah of Phoenix, Arizona, and Dennis Culp of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Rebecca (Michael) Wax, Adam (Jessica) Culp, Peter (Melissa) Culp, Lisa (Cody) Mashburn, Kendra (Clay) Killian, and Tiffany (Ben) Huntington; great grandchildren, Caleb, Olivia, Ben, Karreena, Collin, Chloe, Charlie, Logan, Gavin, Grace, Ruby, Skylar, and Ricki; brother, Eugene (Mary) Sukup of Hampton.
