Albert “Al” L. Shipman, 97, of Mason City passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016, at Good Shepherd Health Center. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church 714 North Adams Avenue with Rev. Andrew A-Mensah and Rev. Kenneth Gehling, Concelebrants. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, December 9, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be held at 6:30 PM followed by a scriptural wake service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 22nd Street SE, Mason City, Iowa, 50401, Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams Avenue, Mason City, Iowa 50401, or KCMR Radio, 316 N. Federal Ave. Mason City, IA 50401.
Albert L. Shipman was born on December 20, 1918, in Hebron, Nebraska to Frank and Anna (Bethscheider) Shipman. Al met the love of his life, Mary, and they married July 6, 1941 in Webster City, Iowa. Most recently they celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. After farming for many years in Nebraska and Iowa, Al and Mary moved their family to Mason City, Iowa in 1955 to continue his career at Fareway Meat Market where he retired after thirty three years of service.
Al enjoyed spending time with his wife, Mary, and their family who he loved very much. Al was a devoted and dedicated husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. Al enjoyed playing golf, fishing, the Iowa Hawkeyes, gardening and traveling all over the world. Al was a member of Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Mason City Country Club.
Al is survived by his wife Mary (Myers) Shipman of Mason City, daughters Marianne (Mike) White of Mason City; Linda (Tom) Malloy of Jacksonville, Florida; and son Doug (Nora Anne) of Gulf Breeze, Florida; brother Robert Shipman, Marysville, Kansas; grandchildren: Kathleen (Michael) Mora, Kristin (Shane) Romesburg, Sarah (Lane) Conner, Catherine (Kevin) Oliver, Claire (Andrew) Reynolds; great-grandchildren, Bianca Mora, Grace Ann Mora, Zachariah Romesburg, Oliva Romesburg; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna; brother, Francis and sister, Evelyn.
