Alex Groff

Alex Groff, 91, of Mason City, IA, died Thursday, March 19, 2015, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at St. James Lutheran Church Chapel, 1148 4th Street SE, with Pastor Jeni Bohls officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alex Groff memorial fund in care of St. James Lutheran Church. Alex was born March 22, 1923, in Mason City, the son of Adam and Anna (Rauh) Groff. He was confirmed into the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and attended school in Blue Earth, MN. In 1939, he moved back to Mason City. Alex served in the U.S. Navy as a 1st Class Seaman during WWII. He was united in marriage to Pauline Adams. He worked as a receiving foreman for the Armour Company for 35 years before his retirement in 1974. He also worked for Star Routes delivering mail to Waterloo, IA. Alex was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and a former member of the Elks. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid bowler. Alex is survived by his son: Reece C. Adams of Iowa Falls, IA; 3 grandchildren: Susan Wells and husband David of Brookings, SD, Lesli Leslie of Prescott, AZ, and Kristen Harris and husband Jim of Aitkin, MN; 3 great grandsons; 3 great granddaughters; and lifelong special friend: Dorothy Mikovec of Mason City and her family. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1987; and 5 sisters: Lydia Bindos, Rachel Kabe, Ella Frank, Rose Pettey and Leah Worner.

Cemetery:
Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.
