Alexandra Tonna Stoynoff, 98 of 1037 19th Street SW, died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Joseph Mirowski, Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Memorials may be given to the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. Tonna was born October 9, 1909 in Chicerlika South Ukraine the daughter of Vasel and Dora (Geloff) Balaban. She immigrated to the United States with her parents in 1912 and settled in North Dakota. The family moved to Montana in 1916, returning to North Dakota in 1924. Tonna married Nick Stoynoff September 16, 1929 then moved to Mason City that same year. Her husband died in 1944. Tonna attended beauty school and worked as a beautician out of her home for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, and gardening.
Tonna is survived by her son, William (Mary) Stoynoff of Ventura; daughter, Evonka (Ron) Nielson of Mason City; grandchildren, Eric (Carol) Nielson, Heather (Bob) Thompson, Kurt (Yelena) Nielson, Nick (Linda) Stoynoff; great grandchildren, Vanessa, Peter, Geoffrey, Erin, Kirill and William David; sisters, Mary Halberstadt and Irene Caffrey
Tonna is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Nick; grandson, David Stoynoff; great granddaughter, Katie Nielson; 2 brothers, Pete and Mike; sister, Helen Anderson.
