MASON CITY Alfina G. (Kramer) Jones, 96, formerly of 667 Briarstone Dr. and Homestead Assisted Living in Mason City, died early Sunday morning, June 29, 2008, at the IOOF Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Swaledale United Methodist Church in Swaledale with Rev. Jim Stiles of First United Methodist Church, Mason City, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Swaledale Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Alfina Jones memorial fund.
Alfina was born in Niewe Schans, Netherlands, on March 2, 1912, the daughter of Jacob and Gertie (Klapp) Kramer. She celebrated her first birthday on the ship Rotterdam and arrived at Ellis Island on March 11, 1913. She attended country schools in the Burchinal area completing 8th grade.
On June 11, 1929, in Swaledale, Iowa, Feenie was united in marriage with Robert Leo (Lee) Jones. For many years the couple farmed in the Swaledale area. In 1958, Feenie and Lee moved to Mason City. Feenie became an Avon representative for a period of time. She also worked at NIACC in various positions. Due to declining health, she became a resident at IOOF in 2006 and remained there until her death.
Feenie was a member of United Methodist Church in Swaledale for over 80 years, the Senior Citizens Center and the local Moose Lodge. Some of Feenie's hobbies included playing cards and bingo with relatives and friends. Feenie loved to reminisce with and about her family and friends. Feenie will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege of sharing her life and humor.
She is survived by her two sons, Robert Louis Jones and his special friend, Mary Holm; Dale L. Jones and his special friend, Mavis Fitzgerald; two sisters, Dena Colby and Dorothy Deam, all of Mason City; three brothers, Paul Kramer of Torrance, Ca., Ralph (Roberta) Kramer of Sheffield and Marvin (Marlys) of Hutchinson, Kansas. She is also survived by seven grand-children, 15 great grandchildren and three great, great grand-children; special friend, Vernita Nichols and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Lee, in 2003; her parents, Jake and Gertie Kramer, five brothers, George, Chris, Jake, Pete and Raymond Kramer; three sisters, Gertrude Rule, Rose May and Grace Faber; and two grandsons.
