Allen D. Roberts

Allen D. Roberts, age 89, of Mason City, formerly of Plymouth, died Friday, November 28, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 North Delaware, Mason City with Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Interment will take place at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City. Allen Roberts was born July 23, 1925 in rural Rudd, IA. He graduated from Rudd High School in 1944. He then joined the U.S. Army and served a year in Japan as a Corporal. Upon Returning to Iowa he farmed with his father. He married Frieda M. Borger on January 24, 1954. He worked for Carroll Sales driving truck before becoming the Standard Oil fertilizer plant manager in Plymouth, Iowa. He also worked for Midland Co-op in Mason City. Allen worked at Wells Fargo as a security guard for 10 years before retiring in 2008. Allen loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed farming and sales auctions. He is survived by his daughters: Sue Calvert, and Sally Roberts, both of Mason City; sons: Steven (Lori) Roberts of Boone, IA; Scott (Betty) Roberts of Ottumwa, IA; six grandchildren: Travis (Amy) Calvert, Dawn (Andy) Schuster, Samantha Roberts, Mikala, Lisa, and Jacob Roberts; one great granddaughter, Casey Schuster. Allen is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frieda on March 7, 1993; sister, Dorothy “June” Cramer; brothers: Willard, Donald, and Lynn Roberts; and son-in-law, Rick Calvert.
