Alma "Peg" Dell Odom

April 21, 1915 — February 8, 2016

Alma “Peg” Dell Odom, 100, of Mason City, IA, died Monday, February 8, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at the Swaledale United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Travis Stevick and Rev. Pete Ward officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the church service. Inurnment will take place in the Pleasant Valley Township Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Alma Odom memorial fund in care of the family

Alma was born April 21, 1915, in Swaledale, IA, the daughter of Harvey N. and Ethel M. (Allen) Ward. She grew up on a farm in southern Cerro Gordo County and attended Swaledale Schools. On June 9, 1933, Peg was united in marriage to Clifford C. Odom in Mason City. They farmed the Sheffield, Swaledale and Clear Lake area until Clifford retired in 1973 and they moved to Mason City.

Over the years, Peg worked as a cook for the County Jail (6 years), Monroe School (3 years) and Adams Jr. High (2 years) before her retirement in 1982. Peg enjoyed playing cards – especially 500, reading, gardening, crafts and making quilts. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Peg was known for her good cooking skills and her family would look forward to her scratch chocolate cake with fudge frosting. Peg was a member of the Swaledale United Methodist Church where she was active in Sarah Circle and UMW. She was also a past member of the Moose Lodge and the Senior Citizens Center.

Peg is survived by 1 daughter: Ethel May Endriss of Fayetteville, AR; 7 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 34 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1978; son-in-law: Glen Endriss; 2 grandchildren; 5 sisters: Florence Austin, Irene Loban, Thelma Ryan, Bonnie May and Hannah May Sandy; and 6 brothers: Bill, Clarence, Garwin, Harvey, Bob and Franklin Ward.
