MASON CITY: Alvin C. Matzen, 99, of 302 2nd St. NE, died Friday, August 19, 2005 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Carla Nelson, First Christian Church officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church or Good Shepherd Telephone Reassurance. Alvin was born April 23, 1906 in Mason City the son of Andrew and Minnie (Siewertsen) Matzen. Alvin was a life long resident of Mason City. He farmed with his father for many years and also worked for Henkel Construction. He was a life time member of the Moose Lodge and a member of the First Christian Church. Alvin is survived by a brother; Walter Matzen of Hot Springs, Arkansas, sisters-in law; Florence Matzen of Jefferson and Peg Matzen of Gaithersburg, Maryland, many nieces and nephews. Alvin was preceded in death by sister, Matilda Varvel and Ella Edgington; brothers, Paul, Edwin and Lawrence.
