MASON CITY Anna Laurie Leichtnam, 82, of Mason City, died Friday, October 8, 2010, at her home. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams, with Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, October 11, 2010, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Inurnment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Anna L. Leichtnam Memorial Fund in care of the family.
Anna was born January 5, 1928, on the family homestead near Hawkeye, Iowa, the daughter of Michael and Clara (Schmitt) Franzen. She attended St. Lucas School before earning her GED from Mason City High School in 1983. She married Anthony Leichtnam on October 21, 1947, in Chester, IA. Anna was a regular member of Holy Family Catholic Church, AARP, Senior Citizens, and St. Gregory Circle. She enjoyed flowers, especially her peonies, baking date cakes and cinnamon rolls for friends, and was an avid reader. She will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her.
Anna is survived by her children, Sue (Dave) Gaebel of Cary, NC, Shirley (Brian) Long of Missoula, MT, Robert (Cindy) Leichtnam of Mason City, Beth (Mike) Hutchinson of Harrisville, PA; grandchildren, Mindy, Heather, and Matt Gaebel, Kari and Kurt Long, A.J. Leichtnam, Christie Smith, Melissa Langkamp, Michaela, Nico, Dane, Cole, Slade Hutchinson; six great grandchildren; four sisters; and two brothers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Don Charles; three brothers, Albert, Leo and Duane Franzen.

Memorials:
Memorials may be directed to the Anna L. Leichtnam Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Cemetery:
Inurnment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation:
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, October 11, 2010, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

Service:
A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams, with Rev. Michael Schueller officiating.
