Annell J. Holmes, 87, of Huron, SD and formerly of Mason City, IA, died Friday, November 27, 2015, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 30, 2015, at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams – Mason City with Rev. Neil Manternach officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the church service. Interment will take place in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Annell Holmes memorial fund in care of the family.
Annell Mineart was born April 18, 1928, in Mason City, the daughter of Peter and Rena (Buch) Mineart. She attended Holy Family School until the age of 16, when her family moved to Oakland, CA. Her family later returned to Mason City and Annell graduated from Mason City High School in 1946. On October 6, 1951, Annell married Donald T. Holmes at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. In 1968, the family moved to Huron, SD. Over the years, Annell worked for St. Francis Donation Center and Sears. She enjoyed traveling and fishing with her husband, shopping with her daughter, spending time with her grandchildren, crafts, making beautiful jewelry, sewing, knitting, gardening, making excellent pie crusts and having coffee with her good friends. She also enjoyed being a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader. Annell was an avid bowler for 45 years, participating in numerous bowling leagues in Stewartville, MN, Rochester, MN and Huron. She also competed in several national bowling tournaments where she earned many trophies. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron, where she was very active. She was also a member of the Camper Club, DAR, and a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. Annell was a kind and patient person who will be deeply missed.
Annell is survived by 2 children: Jim Holmes and wife Kathy Kilian of Oakdale, MN and Renee Clodfelter and husband Kim of Madison, WI; 3 grandchildren: Joe Clodfelter of Milwaukee, WI, Matthew Clodfelter of Milwaukee, and Rachel Clodfelter of San Francisco, CA; 1 sister: Ceora Mullin of Mason City; 2 brothers-in-law: Max Holmes and wife Mickey of Hampton, IA and Dean Holmes of Cypress, CA; 2 sisters-in-law: Lynette Swinton and husband Glen of Marble Rock, IA and Mary Lee Sutherland of Coeur D’alene, UT. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on November 23, 2015; and 2 brothers: Alvin Mineart and LuVernon Mineart.
