Ardis L. Opheim, 90 of Mason City, died Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be in the Bode Cemetery, Bode, Iowa at 2:30 PM. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Ardis L. Opheim Memorial Fund. Ardis was born November 26, 1921 in Armstrong, Iowa the daughter of Peter and Clara (Ellingson) Movick. She grew up in Ottosen, Iowa graduating from Ottosen High School. Ardis married Merle V. Opheim Sr. August 8, 1944. She moved to Mason City in 1965. Ardis worked as a supervisor for North Iowa Vocational Center (NIVC) for 17 years. She enjoyed working with the special people at the center. She retired in 1986. Ardis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Some of her interests included crafts, bowling, and traveling to see her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Good Shepherd Health Center for the attention and care Ardis received. Ardis is survived by her children, Merle V. (Michele) Opheim of Iowa City, Linda A. (Bill) Purdy of Mason City, Burton C. (Bobbie) Opheim of Jackson, Georgia, Randall E. (Sinva) Opheim of Mason City, Daryl L. (Jonna) Opheim of Colfax, California, Debbie L. (Veryl) Hayes of Loveland, Colorado, Kevin D. Opheim of Mason City; 4 brothers, Nyle Movick of Mason City, Marvin (Margaret) Movick of Springfield, Missouri, Bernie Movick of Sioux City, and Arlo (Shirley) Movick of Mason City; 2 sisters, Darlene Oppedahl of Mason City, and Donna Mae Gatton of Fort Collins, Colorado; 21 grandchildren; 19 Great grandchildren. Ardis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Merle Sr.; granddaughter, Tonya Florence; siblings, Peter and Mardell.
