Arlene K. Berrie, 87, of Mason City, died Tuesday (September 20, 2011) at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, (September 24, 2011) at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 4th St. S.E., with Pastor Paul Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 7:00 P.M. Friday (September 23, 2011) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Arlene K. Berrie memorial fund in care of the family. Arlene Katherine Buhr was born December 14, 1923 in Mason City, IA. She was the daughter of August M. and Alma (Kruse) Buhr. Arlene was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church. She was a lifetime member of St. James and was active in Fellowship Society, Circle, Altar Guild and Bazaar Crafts.
She graduated from Mason City High School in 1941. She married Edwin E. Berrie on January 21, 1943 in Key West, Florida. Arlene worked for J.C. Penny Company for twenty three years, until retiring in 1980. She was a member of Mason City Credit Women and the Mason City Womens Club. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memory; sister, Lois Turkal of Bakersfield, CA; daughter, Betty Ann Buss of Mason City; grandsons, Jeffrey Buss of St. Joseph, MI and Jason Buss of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed; brothers, John and Roger Buhr; sisters, Marian (in infancy), Laverna Paulsen and Dorothy Johnson; infant son, Douglas and daughter, Nancy Givens.
