Arthur F. Stocks

Mason City, IA Arthur F. Stocks, 83, of Mason City, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with Rev. Patti Aurand officiating. Inurnment will be held in the churchs columbarium. Memorials may be directed to the Arthur F. Stocks memorial fund in care of the family, or to the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Arthur was born on May 11, 1927, the son of Walter and Pearl (Adams) Stocks in Waverly, IA. He grew up in Nashua, IA, and graduated from Nashua High School. He also graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA, with a degree in music. During his college years, he had his own dance band in which he played saxophone and clarinet and performed for various college functions. Following graduation, Arthur taught band in Clarksville and Rockford, IA. Arthur was married to Jean McClurg on May 29, 1954. They met in Rockford, where they were both teachers at Rockford High School. They moved to Mason City in 1955, where he was employed by the American Cancer Society. He worked there almost 30 years and was the State Director of the Iowa Division. His activities included Rotary Club, where he served as president from 1981 to 1982. He was an avid model railroader and was a member of the train club. He was also a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife Jean (McClurg) Stocks of Mason City; daughters, Susan (Stocks) Leman of Webster City, IA; and Sarah (Stocks) Seelke and husband, John, of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Lauren and Jackson Leman of Webster City, and Caroline and Charlie Seelke of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl (Adams) Stocks; father, Walter Stocks; and step-mother, Nina (Stevens) Stocks and half-sister, Jeanette Stocks.

Memorials:
Memorial services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 19, 2011 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with Rev. Patti Aurand officiating.

Cemetery:
Inurnment will be held in the churchs columbarium.

Visitation:
There will be no visitation, per his wishes he was cremated.
