Arthur “Art” Kenneth Myers, 69, of Mason City, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 440 N. Illinois Avenue, with Pastor Scott Davis officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 4:00 PM – 7:00PM, with a time of sharing at 6:00 PM, on Friday (February 3, 2012) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the Arthur K. Myers memorial fund in care of the family. Arthur was born on April 27, 1942, in St. Ansgar, IA, the son of Harvey and Nellie (Nichols) Myers. He was the third oldest of 8 children, and grew up around rural Clear Lake, IA. Arthur served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1960 – 1964 (during the Vietnam Era). On June 19, 1960, he was united in marriage to Iola R. Baldwin at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union, four children were born. Art made a home for his family in the country and worked as a farmer (his favorite). He also worked as a millwright - climbing high in the sky building feed systems, the automotive department at Sears, and owned his own welding business in later years. Art was a family man. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, their friends and the many children at church and preschool. He also enjoyed helping others and bird watching. Art had a wonderful sense of humor. Art was a member of the World Wide Church of God. He was also a longtime member (Chaplain) of the American Legion - Post 101, 40&8, the Marine Corp League and the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. He took great pride in being a part of the Honor Guard, serving veterans in the Mason City and surrounding area. Art’s memory will be in the hearts and minds of his wife and companion of 51 years: Iola Myers of Mason City; two sons: David (Diane) Myers of Britt, IA, and Verle (Carol) Myers of Nora Springs, IA; two daughters: Tina (Winston) Myers of Vinton, LA and Crystal (Matt) Lang of Mason City; 11 grandchildren: Tony (Andrea) Myers, Brandie (Neil) Pennington, Shane (Maranda) Myers, Seth (Megan) Myers, Joe Christeson, Candi (Cody) Winter, Amber (Sam) Heaberlin, Tonya (Christophe) Roberts, Nick Heaberlin, Kyle Lang, and Hanna Lang; 18 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Roy (Sherry) Myers of Mason City and Ray (Marlys) Myers of Mason City; 3 sisters: Rose Ann (BJ) Hinderacker of Garner, IA, Violet (Merle) Hultman of Oakland, NE, and Iris Deckard of Clear Lake. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Harvey and Oscar; and brother-in-law: Jerry Deckard.
