Barbara A. Etzen

Barbara Ann Etzen, 77, of Mason City, IA, passed away September 3, 2023 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, IA.  Visitation will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, IA.

Barb was born January 16, 1946 the daughter of Charles and Elsie (Monsen) Wilson in Forest City, Iowa.  Barbara was united in marriage to Keith Etzen on Sept. 5 in 1970.  To this union a son Jason was born.

Barb was an accomplished, avid bowler, winning numerous titles over four decades.  She enjoyed countless friendships with staff and kids during her long career as a librarian at Mason City High School.  Her heart was owned by her grandchildren, Winston and Iris who lit up her life and made her proud.  Barbara was a social butterfly who enjoyed good conversation with friends and family.  She served unofficially as a second mom to many.  Outside of bowling, Barb spent her free time reading a good romance novel or watching her beloved Hawkeyes.

Barbara is survived by her son, Jason (Heather) Etzen; sister, Gloria (John) Sieh; brother, Clyde Wilson; two sisters in law, Gloria Holland, Alyce (John) Sciachitano; two grandchildren, Winston, Iris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Etzen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Keith; four sisters, Marge, Bonnie, June, Betty; and two brothers, Jerry and Jimmy.
