MASON CITY: Barbara J. Albers, 83, of Mason City, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Heritage Care Center in the loving arms of her husband, Edward. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Monday, June 2, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be in Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church on Monday one hour prior to services. Memorials may be directed to Disabled Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301. Barbara was born May 9, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Dennis and Madalon (Posson) Shaw. She graduated from Des Moines North High School. Barbara and her first husband, Ernest, moved to Mason City in 1955. For many years, Barbara worked at K-Mart as a manager. A few of her interests included crafts, crocheting, knitting, ceramics and volunteering. She was the family historian and enjoyed her 2 cans of root beer daily. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Edward Albers of Mason City; son, Steven (Barbe) Shackelford of Rustburg, Virginia; daughters, Dona Harris of Columbia Heights, Minnesota, Dixie (Jody) Holmes of Mason City; step-daughter, Chris (Mike) Uhlenhopp of Alexander; grandchildren, David (Jessi) Holmes, Brian (Milly) Shackelford, Sandy Shackelford, Ryan Harris, DeDe (Matt) Abbott, Vanessa Harris, Jeffrey (Amanda) Uhlenhopp and Emily Uhlenhopp; great grandchildren, Kathrine Holmes, Lillian Holmes, Alex Abbott, Scarlet Abbott, Amelie Harris, Helena Harris, Audrey Shackelford, Jonathan Shackelford and Abigail Shackelford; siblings, Ethel Deever of Schurtz, Texas, Walt Shaw of Clarksville, Arkansas, Denise Davis of Elgin, Iowa, Wilbur Shaw of Des Moines and Leta Dell Brown of Des Moines; numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband, Ernest; siblings, Sherry, Ronald, Gary and Gerene.
