Bethel I. Gould, 90, of Mason City, passed away peacefully Friday, June 22, 2007 at Heritage Care Center, Mason City. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday (June 27, 2007) at First Covenant Church, HWY 122, at S. Ohio, with Rev. Tammy Swanson-Draheim officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Bethel I. Gould memorial fund. Bethel, the youngest of nine children, was born August 10, 1916 on a farm in Mitchell County to Edwin John and Isabel (Schulze) Hodson. At the age of four she moved with her family to a farm near Plymouth, IA. After graduating from Plymouth High School in 1934, she attended and graduated from Hamilton Business College. Before her marriage to Rolland Gould in 1937, she worked as a secretary for Wagner Motor Company and Pritchard Motor Company. Rolland and Bethel first lived in Manly where their son, James was born. In 1940 they move to a farm, which they later bought, near Plymouth. In 1970, they sold the farm and bought a home in Mason City. She continued living there after Rolland?s death till 1999 when she moved to Homestead Assisted Living and then to Heritage Care Center in 2004. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Plymouth, where she was in the choir and taught Sunday School for thirteen years. She belonged to the Farmers Wives and Daughters Club and was a charter member of the Plymouth Mothers Club. She became a member of the First Covenant Church and helped with the Children?s Church Bible School and the Ladies Morning Out Bible Study Group. Bethel is survived by her two sisters, Hazel Galbreth of Des Moines and Una Johnson of Kansas City, MO; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Rolland in 1986; a son, James in 1967; and a baby, Billy in 1957; two brothers, Elwin and Boyd; four sisters, Vera Harman, Amy Stevens, Ruth Molsberry and Faye Heiner.
