(Jackson) Burd. She graduated in 1944 from Iberia High School in Iberia, MO; she also graduated from Nurse’s Training in Marshalltown, IA in 1948. She was married in Keokuk, IA on July 6, 1952 to Raymond R. Schumaker. Betty and Raymond were blessed with eight children. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Betty was a lifelong Christian who enjoyed attending church, spending time with her children and grandchildren, dining out, and embroidering. Betty loved horses and was an avid John Wayne fan who enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, collecting memorabilia, and attending the annual John Wayne Festival in Winterset, IA. Betty was known for many things, including her quick wit and sense of humor, her fried chicken, and how she lived life with zeal and loved to be on-the-go, which led to her famous response when asked if she wanted to go somewhere, “all I have to do is get my shoes on.” Betty was getting her shoes on and on-the-go until the two days before her death. Betty’s life served as an example to many who knew her, especially in her roles as a Christian and as a mother. Betty was known as “Ma Schu” to countless friends of her children and others she befriended throughout her life. Her most cherished role on earth was the one all of her children know she was born to do and that was the role of mother. Betty is survived by her eight children, Bruce Schumaker (Shelly) of Olathe, KS, Jeff Schumaker (Pam) of Denver, CO, Robert Schumaker of Nora Springs, Kay Schumaker of Mason City, Sandra Servantez (Michael) of Mason City, Roger Schumaker (Brenda) of Nora Springs, Tony Schumaker of Mason City, and Terry Schumaker (Sherri Olson) of Mason City; sister Joyce Foster and husband Al of Kansas City, MO, eleven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; who knew her as grandma-great. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond in 1989; brother, Stanley Burd; daughter-in-law, Ruth Schumaker and grandson, Scott Schumaker.
