Mason City – Betty Jane Stark, 90, of Mason City, Iowa, died Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel, 2619 St. Mary’s Avenue - Hannibal, Missouri 63401. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Betty’s name to the Good Shepherd Health Center, 302 2nd Street NE, Mason City, IA 50401. Betty was born December 27, 1920, in Webster Groves, MO. She graduated from Webster Groves High School near St. Louis, MO. Betty had a love of books and with aspirations of becoming a librarian, attended and later graduated from the University of Wisconsin. Soon after, she completed a medical internship in St. Louis and worked as a Laboratory Technician, where she met Bob. Betty married Robert F. Stark on July 8, 1950, and the couple lived and worked in Pt. Arthur, TX, until moving to Mason City in 1964. Betty then worked alongside Bob at Park Hospital. Several years later, the couple owned and operated Coin Corner & Miniatures. Over the years, Betty belonged to several Bridge Clubs, enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time with her family. She was an avid reader and a master crossword puzzle enthusiast. She loved handiwork, including cross stitch & knitting. She also loved to play the piano and listen to music of all kinds. Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years: Robert Stark of Mason City; two children: David Stark & wife Diane of Ames, IA, and Patricia Butler & husband Dale of Frisco, CO. She is also survived by two grandsons: Ben Stark & wife Ashley of Manhattan, KS, and Matt Stark of Des Moines, IA.
