Beverly J. Ennis, 88, passed away on October 19, 2023, at the IOOF Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 E State St. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family of Beverly Ennis.
Beverly Jean Wessels was born May 2, 1935, in Iowa City, Iowa and came home to Mason City, Iowa. She was the first daughter of Herman and Jeanette (Gregory) Wessels. She went through Mason City Schools graduating with the Class of 1953. Her marriage to Roger D. Ennis (her high school sweetheart) took place on June 27, 1953. Beverly worked as a secretary at an insurance office in Mason City for a short time before becoming a mother and homemaker.
While helping her husband with his business telephone calls, she enjoyed being a stay-at-home wife and mother raising her family. They were so blessed to have a daughter, Susan and a son, Richard.
Beverly was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason City. She had been a member of the North Iowa Genealogical Society and spent many years tracing the Wessels and Ennis families back through the generations. She enjoyed music, playing piano, and playing her grandfather’s violin while in school. She learned to crochet, did counted cross stitching, and enjoyed sewing and baking.
Beverly and Roger were very fortunate to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary this past summer.
Bev and Roger did extensive traveling including visiting her Wessels family home villages in Germany. They loved traveling in both Europe and the United States together. They spent 20 winters at an RV park in Sun City, AZ where they met many friends from all over the United States.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Roger; daughter, Sue (Steve) Kruckenberg, Sheffield, IA, and son, Rick (Kathy) Ennis, Ames, IA. Also surviving are her 4 grandchildren, Kara (Tom) Shreckengost, Sheffield, IA; Ben (Sara) Kruckenberg, Madrid, IA; Clark (Rachel) Ennis, North Bend, WA; and Sam (fiance Maia Palma) Ennis, Chicago, IL. Great-Grandchildren, Tanner (Jessica) Shreckengost, Sheffield, IA; Caleb Cameron, Jefferson, IA; Grace (Parker) Eley, Roland, IA; Kellen Cameron, Sheffield, IA; Kyle Kruckenberg, Conner Pettiecord, Sawyer Kruckenberg, Bryce Kruckenberg, all of Madrid, IA; and Tayla Ennis, North Bend, WA. Great-Great Grandchildren, Tobias and Madalen Shreckengost, Sheffield, IA. Sister-in-law, Joyce Ennis and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Jeanette Wessels; sister, Dixie Wood; brother-in-law Willis Wood; and her in-laws.
