Billie M. Dougall was born May 26, 1925, in Mason City, the daughter of William and Mabel (Richardson) Dougall. She graduated from Mason City High School and was very active in keeping the class of 1943 in touch and planning reunions. In 1944, she became a member of the Civil Air Patriot Unit. On May 12, 1946, Billie married her classmate, Cecil Mallo at her parents’ home in Mason City. Together they raised three children. They discovered a love of camping after purchasing a camping trailer when their children were very young. For 26 years, they operated Mallo Trailer Sales and Rentals, exclusively offering Bethany campers manufactured by the Bethany Fellowship Missionary Church. Through the years, they traveled to nearly all of the United States with their children and parents. They had a special love of the mountains, pine trees and back roads. Cecil and Billie belonged to the Wigwam and Wagon Campers and helped clear the land for the Margaret MacNider Campground. They later joined the Osage Good Sam Club. Camping provided them with countless wonderful memories of friendships and experiences. Billie worked for Bergo’s for 26 years until her retirement in 1993. During the past few years, she enjoyed visiting Bed & Breakfast establishments when traveling. Billie was also actively involved with Lutheran Brotherhood. She looked forward to Wednesdays to join classmates for coffee, rolls, and conversation. Billie enjoyed spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed city wide rummage sales, working in her flower and vegetable gardens, volunteering at the food bank, eating out, visiting with people, taking trips, and supporting her grandchildren and great grandchildren at their sporting events. Billie was very active and always had a FULL schedule. She stayed busy and young at heart.

Billie is survived by her children: Pamela (Greg) Gergen of Armstrong, IA, James (Deanna) Mallo of Rockford, IA, and Susan Smith of Mason City; grandchildren: Kathy (Corey) Pierce of Armstrong, Tim (Esther) Gergen of San Antonio, TX, Jaimie (Jon) Groven of Rockford, Jacob (Darci) Mallo of Rockford, Chad (Melanie) Smith of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren: Hunter Pierce, Braden Pierce, Cruz Chavez, Avery Groven, Nicholas Groven, Cameron Groven and Lincoln Mallo; niece: Connie Levy; and sister-in-law: Doreen Mallo of Mason City.
