MASON CITY Bonita Bonnie Determan, 97, of Mason City, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.  A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 14, 2008 at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 302 5th St. S.E., with Msgr. Joseph Slepicka officiating.  Interment will be held in Elmwood - St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. with a Rosary Service at 4:00 PM followed by a Scriptural Wake Service.  Memorials may be directed to the Bonita Bonnie Determan memorial fund.
 
Bonita was born on May 14, 1911 in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Dan and Tracy (Keppy) Shire.  On April 27, 1931, she married Raymond B. Determan in Mason City.  She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, St. Francis Circle, and was involved in the Girl Scouts Program.    Bonnie had great faith and was very active in her church.  She was very caring for others.  She enjoyed golfing, dancing, playing cards, listening to music, and watching Lawrence Welk.  Bonnie found joy in children, and would often babysit for family and close friends.     Bonnie was known for her Graham Cracker Cakes.
She is survived by her 4 daughters, Sister Mary Bonita Determan P.B.V.M. of Mason City, Sister Mary Rayanne Determan P.B.V.M. of Mason City, Donna Umbarger and husband Robert of Mason City and Sister Mary Donna Determan P.B.V.M. of Storm Lake, IA;  4 grandchildren:  Carey Umbarger and wife Susan of Garner, IA, Raymond Umbarger and wife Kellie of Gilbert, AZ, Bobbi Jill Thomas and husband Torrey of West Des Moines, IA and Eric Umbarger and wife Nicole of Grimes, IA;  10 great grandchildren:  Lindsay Umbarger of Gilbert, AZ, Lindzie Umbarger of Mason City, Taylor and Isaiah Thomas, both of West Des Moines, Sydney, Grace and Jacob Umbarger, all of Grimes; Gabriel, Grady, and Samuel Umbarger, all of Garner;  3 cousins:  Millie Dahm, Viola Pauley and Leona Knudtson.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 
 
 She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond in 1988; her parents; 2 sisters:  Shirley Shire and Anna Mae Holvik Monaghan; 2 brothers:  Dan Shire Jr. and wife Ruth and Jack Shire and wife Betty.

Memorials may be directed to the Bonnie Determan memorial fund.

Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery

Visitation:
Visitation will be from 2PM - 5PM with a Rosary service at 4PM followed by a Wake Service at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

10:30 AM, Monday, July 14, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church
