MASON CITY: Bruce L. Meeker, 94, of Mason City, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, October 5, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 East State Street with Rev. Sid Bohls officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Sunday at the church. Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery on Monday. Memorials may be directed to the Bruce Meeker Memorial Fund or donor’s choice. Bruce was born February 22, 1920 in Mason City the son of Theron Ray and Esther (Geiler) Meeker. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1938. Bruce married Edith K. Nielsen June 1, 1940 in Waterloo. He enlisted in the US Navy in April of 1944 and received his honorable discharge in October of 1945. Upon returning to Mason City, Bruce worked at Sears and Mason City Tent & Awning. He would go on to work for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad as a Brakeman-Conductor for 27 years. He retired in 1972. Bruce was a fixer, a trait he passed on to his children, and would often be found in his garage fixing things. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and was affiliated with St. Paul Lutheran Church. Bruce is survived by his wife, Edith of Mason City; children, Pat Krieger of Iowa Falls, Jay (Jill) Meeker of Cedar Rapids, Robert “Bob” (Marsha Acord) Meeker of Mount Vernon, LuAnn Meeker Gast (Bob) of Cresco, Mike (Faith) Meeker of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Ron (Barb) Meeker of Elkhart; 14 grandchildren, John and Kari Beth Krieger, Debbie Tuerler, Vicki Bierie, Krista Sorensen, Jeff, Scott and Steven Meeker, Alma and Grace Gast, Katie and Eric Meeker, Casey and Kayla Meeker; 18 great grandchildren. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Melvin; sister, Doris Tiedeman; son-in-law, Rollie Krieger; daughter-in-law, Mary Meeker, wife of Bob and an infant granddaughter.
