Carlos L. Thompson, 82, of Mason City, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services will be held 7:00 PM Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. James Magelssen officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.
At his request, he will be cremated. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to KCMR radio.
Carlos was born June 25, 1928 in Svea, Minnesota the son of Enoch Tony and Johanna (Lindblad) Thompson. He graduated from Willmar High School, Willmar, Minnesota. Following high school, he worked as a self-employed milk hauler for a few years. Carlos served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he attended Northwestern Electronics Institute in St. Paul. Carlos married H. Marie Crawford April 26, 1959 in Dayton, Ohio. They lived in Waterloo, Iowa from 1959 to 1963. Carlos and Marie moved to Mason City in 1963. Carlos worked for IBM as a Field Engineer for 21 years. He retired in 1986. He was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he ushered and served on numerous boards and committees. Carlos was also a member of Solrlag, the American Legion and Sons of Norway. A few of his interests included flying, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and helping with sets at Mason City Community Theatre and Stebens Childrens Theatre. He enjoyed traveling to visit relatives, Rio de Janerio, Norway and Sweden, but after two weeks was really ready to come home.Family members surviving Carlos are his wife, H. Marie Thompson of Mason City; 4 sons, Lance G. (Debbie) Thompson of Rochester, Minnesota, Grant R. (Betsy) Thompson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Glenn L. (Barbara) Thompson of Hamilton, Ohio, and Wayne P. (Beverly) Thompson of Mason City; grandchildren, Danielle and Michaela, Whitney and Clair, Nathaniel and Anthony, and Logan; 2 sisters, Yvonne (Harold) Korthuis of Willmar, Minnesota and Diane Plowman of Willmar, Minnesota. 2 sisters-in-law, Lorraine Thompson of Willmar, Minnesota and Doris Thompson of Atwater, Minnesota; 2 brothers-in-law, James R. Crawford and wife Carm of Dayton, Ohio and Michael Swisher and wife Leona of Troy, Ohio.Others surviving are Lori Tracy, Olivia Thompson, his coffee drinking pals and many other friends acquired over the years.Carlos is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Allen, Roger and Quentin Thompson and a sibling in infancy.
