Carol D. Mast

Carol Dean Mast, 88, formally of Mason City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2020, at Prairie View Campus in Sanborn, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 21, 2020, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave.

The family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Like Sam, Carol donated her body to the University of Iowa School of Medicine.

Inurnment will be held at a later date in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Carol Dean (Jensen) Mast was born on March 29, 1932, in Wells, Minnesota to Andrew and Selma (Hermanson) Jensen. She graduated from Wells High School and attended Iowa State Teachers’ College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. On June 15, 1958 she married Samuel Mast. They began their married life together in Manning, Iowa. They moved to Mason City in 1963, where they spent the next 54 years during which time they raised their 2 children, Sue and Andy.

Throughout her life, Carol taught English and music, which was a life-long love of hers, gave piano lessons, served as the organist and secretary at First Baptist Church, and worked as a unit clerk at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City. She was a member of PEO, Chapter IY. Besides Carol’s musical talents, she was an accomplished seamstress and knitter. She also enjoyed making candies and cookies for friends and family.

Carol is survived by a daughter, Sue McCauley, Primghar, IA; a son, Andy Mast, Neenah, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Sam and Sophie Mast, Megan (Josh) Reiling and Robert McCauley; one great-grandchild, Crew and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel, in 2017, her brother Donald (Lil) Jensen and sisters Rosamond (Sherman) Miller, Eleanor Musser and Ila Lambert.
