MASON CITY Carol Jean Winter, 66, of Mason City, formerly of St. Lucas, IA, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, (July 24, 2009) at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 302 5th St. S.E., with Rev. Craig E. Steimel officiating. There will be a gathering of friends and family one hour prior to the church service. A private family inurnment will be held at Elmwood-St. Joseph Columbarium at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Carol Winter memorial fund in care of the family.\r\n
Carol was born March 4, 1943 in St. Lucas, IA, the daughter of Vincent and Elizabeth (Schwamman) Junk. She attended St. Lukes Catholic School. On April 28, 1962, she married Donald Winter in St. Lucas. She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church. Carol enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling with Roger, cleaning houses, taking care of her dog, Cleo, gardening and reading. She also had lots of special friends she enjoyed spending time with. Over the years, Carol worked for UNISYS in Clear Lake, Silver Lake Apartments in Rochester, MN, and Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.\r\n
She is survived by significant other: Roger McFarland of Boxholm, IA; her children: Dee Ann Rogers and husband Curt of Clear Lake, IA, Lori Myers and Fianc Paul Theilen of Fertile, Kyle Winter and wife Dee Dee of Sheffield, IA, Kurt Winter and wife Kristi of Mason City; 5 sisters: Rita Lou Einck of Waterloo, IA, Iva Nell Pavlovec of Calmar, IA, JoAnn Massman and husband Francis of Decorah, IA, Dora Lee Terry and husband Dr. Robert of Thornton, IA, Betty Hackman and husband Paul of Calmar, 7 grandchildren: Miranda, Brandon and Alyssa Myers, Becca Rogers, Joseph Winter, Grace and Jack Maznio; brother and sister-in-law: Linus and Doris Winter of Vinton, IA; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Holthaus of Cresco, IA and Leona Winter of St. Lucas; brothers-in-law: Roger Moellers of Ossian, IA and Zeno Kappes of Decorah, IA. \r\n
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald in 2002, one brother: Lee Junk; one sister: Anna Mae Hageman.
