Carol Klath Schmiedeskamp, 76, of Mason City, Iowa, died Friday, February 23, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, March 5 at First United Methodist Church WAYside Chapel located at 119 South Georgia Avenue. Carol was born in Evanston, Illinois on December 21, 1930 to parents Carl O. Klath and Harriet T. (Tubbesing) Klath. The family moved to Mason City in 1936, where Carol attended public schools, graduating from Mason City High School in 1948. Carol received her Bachelors Degree from Rockford College in 1952, during which time she also studied at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Following graduation she worked at Harris Trust Company in Chicago for several years. While married to Carl Schmiedeskamp she lived in Norwood, Massachusetts and Mount Prospect, Illinois. In 1969 Carol moved to Princeton, New Jersey where she worked as an administrator in the Sociology Department at Princeton University. Carol returned to Mason City in 1980 and over the years was involved in a variety of activities, including Mason City Woman?s Club, Chapter IY of PEO, Republican Women?s Club, MCHS Class of ?48, and Willowgreen Townhouse Association. She was a volunteer for several organizations including Stockman House, MacNider Art Museum, Adult Literacy, Reading Buddies at Hoover School for RSVP, and Opportunity Village. In addition she was very active with the First United Methodist Church of Mason City, serving in various leadership capacities with the Finance Committee, the Ruth Circle, and United Methodist Women. In her spare time, Carol enjoyed gardening, attending lectures, concerts and theater performances, and traveling with friends. Carol is survived by her son Bill Schmiedeskamp and daughter-in-law Carie of Morristown, New Jersey, and her brother Norman Klath and sister-in-law Nancy of Princeton, New Jersey. Carol was preceded in death by her parents. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mason City at the address above or to the MacNider Art Museum, 303 2nd Street SE, Mason City, Iowa, 50401.
