Charlotte Mae (Polly) Darrow

Charlotte Mae “Polly” Darrow, 75, of Mason City, IA, died Thursday, January 30, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 3, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Upon her wishes her body was cremated and there will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Charlotte Darrow memorial fund in care of the family. Charlotte Mae Holdorf was born February 12, 1938, in Algona, IA, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilber Holdorf. Following her schooling in the Algona Public School System, Charlotte married and to this union 8 children were born: Theresa David, Donny, Daniel, Dennis, Tina, Dale and Darrell. She later married David F. Darrow in June of 1992 in Clear Lake, IA. In addition to being a wonderful homemaker, Polly also cleaned for the Manor in Mason City. Because of her exceptional cleaning skills, she became a house hold name at the Manor. Polly enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors, walking the trails at the nature center with her husband, playing frisbee & walking her Shih Tzu “Jeffrey” and playing pool. Polly was full of spunk and truly enjoyed life. She will be greatly missed. Polly is survived by her husband of 21 years: David Darrow of Mason City; her children: Theresa Garrey and husband Creg of Ames, IA, David Gruver of Adel, IA, Donny Gruver and wife Amy of West Des Moines, IA, Daniel Gruver and wife Denise of Northwood, IA, Dennis Gruver and wife Laura of Adel, Tina Johnson and husband Chris of Adel, and Dale Gruver and wife Melissa of Jewell, IA, and Amber Sampson and husband Russ of Ames; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; 1 sister: Betty of Spencer, IA; 2 brothers-in-law: James Darrow and wife Ping of Atlantic, IA and Mark Darrow and wife Pam of Branson, MO; 3 sisters-in-law: Patricia Sams of Branson, Joy Albertson and husband Mike of Atlantic, and Rhoda Annon of Atlantic; and many nieces and nephews. Polly is also survived by her beloved dog: Jeffery. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 son: Darrell Gruver; 2 brothers; 2 sisters: Arlys Sankey and Mary Keebler; and a brother-in-law: Richard Sams.
