Christie M. Helmer

Christie M. Helmer, 46, of Mason City, IA, died Friday, March 25, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 28, 2016, at Harvest Bible Chapel, 2200 N 24th St, Clear Lake, with Pastor John Tank officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. Inurnment will take place in the Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth, IA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Christie Helmer memorial fund in care of the family. The family requests casual attire.

Christie was born on November 9, 1969, in Iowa City, IA, the daughter of Lonnie and Judy (Winfrey) Helmer. She graduated from Sheffield High School in 1988. Christie enjoyed helping those with intellectual and developmental disabilities by volunteering her time with North Central Iowa Arc. She especially enjoyed being their “event planner”. Christie loved music and faithfully followed the band “Little Texas” for the past 20+ years. She also had an interest in hockey and was know as the “ticket lady” for the North Iowa Huskies, North Iowa Outlaws and the North Iowa Bulls for the past 30 years.

Christie is survived by her father: Lonnie Helmer and wife Deb of Mason City; brother: Lynn Helmer of Dows, IA; niece: Renee Helmer; nephew: Ryan Helmer; aunt: Karen Christensen of Nora Springs, IA; uncle: Richard Cory and wife Kim of Mason City; cousin: Ben Cory and wife Lisa of Cedar Falls, IA; cousin: Lindsey Schultz and husband Chris, and their daughter: Whitney; cousin: Jami Hepperly and fiancé Steve Gabel of Mason City; and special 2nd cousins: Brayden Hepperly and Avery Strasheim.

She was preceded in death by her mother; grandparents: Gwen and Skeeter Cory, uncle: Mike Cory; and cousin: Damen Cory.
