Clara L. Grier

INDIANOLA, IA Clara L. Grier, age 89, of Indianola, IA, formally of Mason City, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania, with Pastor Dudley Peterson of Trinity Baptist Church in Des Moines, IA officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Clara L. Grier Memorial Fund or Hospice of Central Iowa.

Clara was born March 21, 1921, in Alma, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Emma (Jackson) Olson. She attended Mason City schools. She was united in marriage to John E. Grier in Waterloo, IA, in 1940. She worked at Mercy Hospital for 26 years as a nurses aide. Clara enjoyed playing UNO, drinking coffee, gardening and landscaping, growing flowers, and most of all, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her.

Clara is survived by her son, Richard (Diane) Grier of Des Moines; grandchildren, Jim (Wendy) Grier of Des Moines, Mary (Curt) Hines of Prole, IA; great grandchildren, Drew, Jessica, and Josh Grier, Jacob and Cheyenne Hines; brother, Leonard Olson of Mason City; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 44 years, John Grier; six brothers and sisters.
