Clarence J. Christiansen, 94, of Mason City, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 2502 South Jefferson Avenue with Rev. Emily Horrell officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Saturday (June 9, 2012) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, and continue one hour prior to the church service. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Clarence Christiansen memorial fund in care of the family. Clarence was born September 23, 1917, in Rock Falls, IA, the son of John and Carolina (Wohlert) Christiansen. He attended school in Rock Falls. Clarence enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 10, 1941. He served as Pfc overseas - during WWII, and was injured in action three times before his honorable discharge of May 16, 1943. Clarence married Evelyn I. Miller on September 26, 1944, at the First Christian Church in Mason City. He worked as a mechanic at Floyd and Leonard for 38 years before his retirement. Clarence was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, the American Legion, Moose Lodge, VFW, and DAV. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Clarence is survived by his wife of 67 years: Evelyn Christiansen of Mason City; one son: Gary Christiansen of Mason City; two daughters: Linda Defenbaugh of West Des Moines, IA, and Julie Harms of Summerville, SC; five grandchildren: Amanda Belcher and husband Darren of Lake Orion, MI, Angela Essink and husband Troy of West Des Moines, Shane Defenbaugh of Des Moines, Janel Harms of Britt, IA, and Stacey Harms of Summerville; and two great grandchildren: Devan Defenbaugh and Courtney Bloodgood. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother: Meta Christiansen; four sisters: Viola Bailey, Minna Stupka, Elsie Tibbits, Luella Wyborny Kaldenberg; one brother: Leonard Christiansen; and three step-brothers: Arnold Petersen, Art Petersen, and Bill Carson Petersen.

Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery
