Clayton E. Freeman, 84, of 1007 3rd Ave. N., Northwood, died Sunday, April 23, 2006 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Robert Luebbert of Northwood Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa and the Humane Society of North Iowa. Clayton was born December 4, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the son of Philip and Margaret (Hooven) Freeman. He served in the Navy during World War II and married Jen Brockson on November 26, 1942. Clate and Jen had three daughters; Lynn, Donna and Robin. After the service, Clate worked for ARCO oil company during the day and was your perfect neighborhood construction man in the evenings. Perfect since he always made sure he cleaned up after doing a job. In 1972, he was transferred to Los Angeles which was an opportunity to spend the next eight years with his sister Mardie, who lived in California since the war. Clate loved to golf and bowl but mostly enjoyed spending time with his family. After Jen died, Clate moved to Iowa and purchased a little home in Northwood. He made many new friends and spent time with his grandchildren and his loyal companion, his great dog Babe. He was very fortunate to make a special and very caring friend Annie. Clate and Annie were always going somewhere and especially enjoyed going out to eat and then to the bowling alley. Annie was a true lifeline for Clate in the last couple years and Clate?s family is very grateful for her help and love. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Lynn McGee of Aston, Pennsylvania, Donna Braccille and her husband Jim of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, Robin Nodtvedt and her great friend Ellert of Northwood; grandchildren, Lisa, Paige, Jimmy Joe Braccille, Megan, Amy, and Eddie McGee, Morgan and Brooke Nodtvedt; five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jen, and brothers Philip and Bill. Major Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements, 641-423-0924
