Cleo N. Cody, 85, of 1037 19th Street SW, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the IOOF Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Steve Palo, Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in St. Johns South Cemetery, Cylinder, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be given to the Cleo N. Cody Memorial Fund. Cleo was born June 14, 1923 in Palo Alto County the daughter of Clarence and Mabel (Hott) Howard. She graduated from Cylinder High School. Cleo married Palmer T. Cody July 19, 1940 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Cleo and Palmer owned and operated the Graettinger Times newspaper from 1952 to 1972. In 1972, they sold the paper and moved to Mason City. Following retirement, Cleo and Palmer enjoyed golfing. Cleo recorded five holes-in-one. Cleo was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and remained active until poor health intervened.
Cleo is survived by a sister, Doris Zurilgen of Clovis, California; brother-in-law, James Cody of Riceville; nephew, William Cody of Mason City; niece, Linda Hill of Emmetsburg; several other nieces and nephews.
Cleo was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Palmer in 1982; 2 sisters, 1 brother and a sister and brother in infancy.
