MASON CITY Cora L. Kottmann, 89, of Mason City, died Saturday, October 22, 2011, at Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Rockwell, with Pastor Rhea Evanson officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2011, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will be held in Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield, IA. Memorials may be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church, 502 2nd Street South, Rockwell, Iowa, 50469, or Hospice of North Iowa.
Cora LaVonne Kottmann was born May 8, 1922, to Aley and Hannah (Johansen) Kottmann on a farm southeast of Thornton, IA, in Franklin County. She was baptized at home on June 18, 1922, and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Thornton, IA, on March 28, 1937. Cora attended country schools and then graduated from Sheffield High School with the Class of 1939. After graduation she worked for families in the Mason City area, taking care of children. She later moved to Waverly, IA, and worked in the Lutheran Childrens Home, later known as Bremwood for 1 years. Cora then moved to the Chicago, IL, area and worked as a child care worker at Lutherbrook, Addison, IL, for about 30 years. Upon moving back to Mason City, she worked at Mercy Hospital until retirement, but continued to volunteer there. Her hobbies were reading, crafts, playing cards and traveling. She always enjoyed time spent with her children. Cora is a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and Mary Marth Circle. While an active member of circle, she participated in making quilts and bibs.
Cora is survived by her four nieces, Joan (Donald) Werstein of Clear Lake, Jean (Douglas) Olmsted of Las Vegas, NV, Kathryn (Jerry) Schlawin of Elkport, IA, and Jane (Leland) Dhondt of Hampton, IA; sister in-law, Marele Kottmann of Thornton, IA; and longtime friend and former co-worker Shirley Schultz of Fargo, ND, along with cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Evelyn Kruse; brother, James Kottmann; and brother in-law, Wilbert Kruse.

Memorials may be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church, 502 2nd Street South, Rockwell, Iowa, 50469, or Hospice of North Iowa.

Cemetery:
Interment will be held in Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield, IA.
