Courtney was born April 3, 1985 to loving parents Jody (Suby) and Gary Sellon. She was the youngest of the 3 children in her family—a role she embraced with both charm and wit. Whether commanding attention or quietly observing from the background, Courtney had a unique way of making her presence felt. She grew up in Mason City, Iowa and graduated from Mason City High School in 2003. She pursued higher education at Luther College, Mount Mercy and NIACC. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Middle School Education. After college, she moved to La Crescent, MN, where she lived with her sister Larkin’s family and worked in West Salem, WI, as a preschool teacher. She continued to use her degree when she began working as a trainer for APAC. She found her passion for helping when she began her career with Logistics Health, Inc (now Optum Serve) in service to our military community. Most recently she had begun to work with artists from across the country designing pins, collecting, promoting and selling them online.

Sports were a lifelong love. In high school, Courtney participated actively in athletics. She played all sports: basketball, softball, and track. She played softball for Mount Mercy and NIACC colleges as their pitcher. She was quite a talent and was adored by her team. “C. Sellon” and “Coco” were a couple of her nicknames. She continued playing softball with the St. James church league until she moved to La Crosse.

Courtney’s sense of humor lit up every room she entered. She was known for being funny, kind, smart, and fiercely determined—qualities that endeared her to everyone lucky enough to have known her.

She was also talented musician who played both the violin and piano and loved to sing. Her musical tastes knew no bounds—from country ballads to gangster rap, she appreciated it all with equal enthusiasm. She knew the lyrics to most 90’s rap songs and could recite them at will. It was quite amazing.

Making friends came so easily to Courtney and she had so many! When she was just a little girl, she would tell her parents, “I am going to make a new friend today.” And she would do just that. Courtney loved with everything she had. She lifted everyone up around her.

Above all else, Courtney loved “her people.” Her mother, Jody, was her favorite person and she wanted to spend as much time with her as she could. She loved Micheal, her boyfriend, and the life they created together with Brosnon (Bun) her bunny and their cats Taki and Riku. She loved spending time with anyone from her entire family (which is quite large) and always knew everyone’s name and who they belonged to. It was her way.

She is lovingly remembered by her mother, Jody Sellon; brother Ryan Sellon; sister Larkin (Jayson) Becker; sister Amanda (Matthew) Starr; her significant other Michael Vera; nephews Cole Becker and Jaxon Sellon; nieces, Jacey Sellon, Lily Becker and Kenadi Sellon; many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family; her work family and friends from Optum Serve (formerly LHI); and her many, many friends.

Courtney now joins those who passed before her: her father Gary Sellon; grandparents Colleen and Roger Suby and Shirley Sellon; uncle Kirk Suby; and other cherished members of her extended families.

Courtney’s vibrant spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May all of the wonderful moments and memories bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. Because she truly loved you.
