Dale A. Brakel

MASON CITY ? Dale A. Brakel, 86 of Mason City died Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services for Dale will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 26, 2005 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 101 North Hawkeye Avenue in Nora Springs, with the Rev. Ruth Hansen officiating. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday. Dale was born November 9, 1918 the son of Henry and Winnie (Terpeney) Brakel in rural Nora Springs. He attended country school near the family farm in Nora Springs. Dale was raised on the farm and made it a lifelong career. He retired from farming and moved to Mason City in 1980. Dale was a quiet person and was content with working on the farm. He enjoyed driving around in his many new trucks and visiting his friends in nursing homes around the area. Dale liked to watch the old western movies and loved to socialize with people he met while eating out for breakfast, lunch and dinner. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. Dale is survived by his daughter, Janet Lakey of Corvallis, Oregon; a son, Jim Brakel and wife Debbie of Mason City; a grandchildren, Jamie Barclay and husband Robert of Mason City, Sheryl Anderson and Steven Anderson both of Portland, Oregon; a cousin, Rosie Phelps of Mason City; a special friend LaVonne Hain of Vetura; and many nieces, nephews and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Joseph Brakel and a brother, Lyle Brakel.
