Dale E. Mahn

Dale Elwood Mahn, 85, of Mason City, died Friday, January 1, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City with Chaplain Janet Dorenkamp, Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield. Memorials may be directed to the Dale Mahn Memorial Fund.

Dale Elwood Mahn, the son of Earl and Florence (Walker) Mahn, was born September 26, 1930 in rural Sheffield, Iowa. His parents moved to town but he enjoyed the farm and worked for several area farmers during his school days. He attended Sheffield School graduating in 1949. He began working full time for Carroll Boehlje. On March 12, 1950, he married Dora Bare at the Little Brown Church near Nashua. To this union 2 children were born, daughter Patricia and son Gary. They farmed over 40 years in the Sheffield area and enjoyed working together. He really enjoyed his many trips fishing in Minnesota and Canada with family and friends. During his time at Sheffield, Dale served on the FMHA County Committee, 9 years on the Sheffield Farmers Co-op board, several terms on the Sheffield Care Center Board and also Sunrise Homes Board. He was a member of the Sheffield United Methodist Church and served when called. Upon retiring from farming in 1995 and moving to Mason City, he transferred his membership to Wesley United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank the staff at Good Shepherd especially those on Memory Lane for the loving care Dale received and the support given by Hospice of North Iowa was added comfort.

Dale is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dora of Mason City; daughter, Patricia (Tim) Rodemeyer of Hampton, Iowa; son, Gary (Mary Ellen Stone) of Sammamish, Washington; 3 granddaughters, Sara Rodemeyer (Tony Wilken), Melissa (Thai) Nguyen and Courtney (Nolan) Craighton; 6 great granddaughters, Kayla and Kara Welsher, Sophia Wilken, Sydney, Samantha and Sloane Nguyen; many nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bob; sister, Helen and her husband, Don Boehlje; sister-in-law, Merle Mahn; nephews, Tom, Rick and Gene Mahn.
