Dale M. Studt, 80, of 1822 Springview Drive, died suddenly from a stroke Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue at the church one hour before services. Memorials may be given to the Dale Studt memorial fund. Dale was born July 23, 1928 in rural Luzerne, Iowa the son of Clarence and Lillian (Kettler) Studt. He graduated from Belle Plain High School in 1945, Iowa State University in 1949 and went on to receive his Masters degree from Iowa State in 1954. Dale served in the Army Counter Intelligence Corp during the Korean War. He married Ellen Narum in 1954, she died in 1959, then Lucille Lucy Olson, July 1, 1961, Lucy died in 1995. Dale married Jeanette F. Venz August 1, 1998. Dale worked for Iowa State University as a Crop Specialist in the NIAD area extension office for 33 years. He retired in 1987. Dale received the Iowa State University Extension Distinguished Service Award and the Iowa State University Extension R.K. Bliss Award from Iowa State. Following retirement, he worked as a private Crop Consultant for 11 years. Dale was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City Evening Lions Club, where he was past president, and the American Legion. He enjoyed volunteering and traveling. A few of the organizations Dale volunteered for were the Blood Center of Iowa, Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Salvation Army, and Good Shepherd Health Center.

Dale is survived by his wife, Jeanette of Mason City; daughter, Laurel Lagoni and husband Pete of Fort Collins, Colorado; 4 grandchildren, Bryn & Kaia Lagoni, Laurie Jones and husband Greg, and Lisa Moore and husband Mike; 3 great grandchildren, Alan and Brock Moore, and Ryker Jones; brother-in-law, Bill Metcalfe of Des Moines; 2 step-sons, Michael Venz and wife Judy of Rochester, Minnesota and Larry Venz of Mason City; 3 step grandchildren, Kathryn Ohm, Robert and David Venz; 3 step great grandchildren.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife, Ellen and 2nd wife, Lucille; daughter, Lynn Brockman; sister, Corene Metcalfe.
