Daniel F. Murphy, 78, of Mason City, passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, at IOOF Home in Mason City. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Epiphany Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church 302 5th Street SE, with Rev. Dave O’Connor officiating. Inurnment will follow in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 5-7 p.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania. Memorials may be left to the family of Dan Murphy.
Daniel Francis Murphy, loving husband and father, was born on June 11, 1946, in Olean, New York, the youngest of four children of Irish immigrants. Dan married Sarah Biggs on September 26, 1981, and the couple were blessed with one child, Daniel Conor.
Dan graduated from California State University, Los Angeles, obtaining his B.S. in Business Administration and Accounting. He worked as a CPA for 28 years at Dresser Ind. and later worked at Cutco from 1999-2005. Dan retired from Seabee Corp. in Hampton in 2015 as Chief Financial Officer.
Throughout his life, Dan lived all over the country, including Los Angeles, Houston, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and western New York. The last twenty years, Dan resided in Mason City.
In his free time, Dan loved to travel. He was proud of his Irish heritage, and he enjoyed trips to Ireland with his son, Conor. He was a lifelong athlete; he ran at least two dozen marathons, many triathlons, and completed the Ironman Triathlon at age 69. Dan was a great cook, he loved food and he enjoyed sharing with his family and friends. To know Dan was to love him. He was an amazing husband, father, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by those who knew him and loved him.
Dan is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sarah Murphy; son, Daniel Conor (Sarah) Murphy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Jack and Bob; and sister, Ellen Forness.
