Daniel Scott Schoon, 56, of Mason City, passed away Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 11 a.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania with Rev. Dan Gerritts officiating. A visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the family of Daniel Schoon.
Daniel was born April 22, 1968, in Cedar Rapids, IA to parents Lee and Katherine (Laughlin) Schoon. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1986. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in History from Northern Arizona University. He worked for Trinity Health as a financial service representative up until his passing.
Daniel loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved going on camping trips in Arizona, kicking back with a beverage and telling stories. He was a gifted storyteller and loved to befriend and tell stories to anybody that he met. Along with his stories he loved his paranormal investigation trips across the country with friends. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeye fan. You could often find him watching football on the weekends.
Daniel loved his family and friends. He could put a smile on anybody's face. He loved all animals, especially the many dogs he had over the years.
Daniel is survived by his longtime partner Mary Morrison, her daughters Christine (Christian) Marsh of Blair NE, Emily Morrison of Iowa City IA, Leah (Ben Peters) Morrison of Johnston IA, his father Lee (Sandy) Schoon of Las Cruces NM, brother Allan (Chris) Schoon and niece Nina Schoon of El Mirage AZ. As well as extended family and the many friends he made in his lifetime.
Daniel is preceded in death by his mother Katherine (Laughlin) Schoon.
The family would like to thank the Cerro Gordo County Sherriff's Department, Mason City EMT'S, and MercyOne North Iowa ER staff for their quick response and dedication to the community.
