MASON CITY ? Darlene E. Hill, 51, of Mason City, died Sunday, December 26, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center ? North Iowa. Funeral services for Darlene will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday, December 31, 2004 at First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia Avenue with Rev. Barbara Stewart, Chaplain, Mercy Medical Center ? North Iowa officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood ? St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM ? 8:00 PM on Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to the National Black Child Development Institute, 1101 ? 15th Street NW, Suite 900, Washington, D.C., 20005. Darlene was born August 22, 1954 the daughter of Willie and Maybelle (Farley) Turner in Mason City Iowa. She attended Grant Elementary and Roosevelt Junior High in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School in 1971. Darlene furthered her education majoring in Fashion Merchandising in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Darlene and her husband Andre Hill have been married for eighteen years. Darlene was and avid defender of children?s rights and worked for the Tiny Tots Day Care in Des Moines for many years. Darlene then became a career volunteer, giving of her time to many civic organizations. She was very active in the Democratic Party, serving as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention since 1976. While in Davenport Darlene chaired the City Democratic Party. She was also very active in the NAACP in Davenport and was the President of the Quad Cities Branch of the NAACP. In Davenport she served on the Park Board where she gained interest for her current position on the Mason City Park Board. Darlene also currently served on multiple other civic organizations. Darlene is survived by her husband, Andre Hill of Des Moines; daughter, Danielle Hill of Mason City, brother, Clarence Turner of Ames; sisters, Delores Macer and husband Sterling of Springfield, Missouri and Dr. Deborah Ann Turner of Des Moines; nieces and nephews, Daniyel Turner, Deanne Hodge, Sterling Macer JR., Dawn Macer, Deneice Dunn, Leroy Dunn III, Ronnie Dunn Sharpe; and twelve grand and great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her cousins: Beverly Burrell, Paul Coty JR, Pauletta Kipper, Diana Bowers, Dwight Coty, Ralph Coty, Michael Coty, Joseph Coty, Andrea Coty, Carolyn Coty and Pierre Coty. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Maybelle (Farley) Turner and three brothers, Leroy Dunn II, Raymond Dunn and Lavern Turner, her grandparents, Richard and Maggie Golden and her Aunt and Uncle, Spiciey Coty and Paul Coty Sr.
