Darlene K. Norton, 78, of Mason City, IA, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Good Shepherd Health Center. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Wednesday, November 29, 2023, with Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. Visitation will follow from 4 until 6 PM at the Major Erickson Funeral Home.
Darlene was born September 18, 1945, the daughter of Warren and Edna (Seaver) Olson in Charles City, Iowa. Darlene graduated from Rockford Senior High in the Class of 1963. Darlene and former spouse, Jerry Manning, had three daughters. She is preceded in death by her second former husband, Gordon Norton.
Darlene’s musical talents were shown in her love of playing her saxophone. She was a gifted seamstress who enjoyed sewing, crochet work and quilting. She enjoyed teaching her grandchildren these hobbies. Darlene was also an avid Rummikub competitor and loved to challenge her grandkids and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Marcia (Carl) Ginapp and Gwen Manning; grandchildren, Callie Ginapp, Riley Ginapp, Camre Ginapp, Leighton Lange and Quincy Lange; siblings, James Olson, June Klemas, Vern Olson, Sharon Paulus, Larry (Donna) Olson, Joann Felton, Dale (Karen) Olson and Lois (Terry) Long; and a plethora of nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, Cindy Manning; her parents; a sister, Bonnie Scott; sisters in law, Marilyn Olson and Margaret Olson; and brothers in law, Roger Klemas, Leonard Scott and Paul Paulus.
