MASON CITY: Darline P. Dopps, 94, of Mason City, IA, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City, IA, with a Prayer Service at 7:30 PM with Pastor Ed Bard, Chaplain Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 15, 2009 at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home, 4040 A. Street, Lincoln, NE, with Rev. Mike McMurtry officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM 7:00 PM on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.
Darline was born February 15, 1915 in Beatrice, NE, the daughter of Thomas and Pearl (Kennedy) Hawkins. She attended school in Beatrice. Darline married Dale ODonnell on July 22, 1931 in Marysville, KS. On August 5, 1974, she married E.C. Dopps in Beatrice, NE. Darline was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mason City. When she was younger, she enjoyed helping out in the church kitchen. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and taking care of people. She liked to deliver soup and goodie baskets to her neighbors and the older people in the area nursing homes.
She is survived by her daughters: Kathy Thompson and friend Dave Balek of Mason City, Mary Ann ODonnell of Mason City; step-daughter, Nancy Olson of Green Bay, WI; grandchildren, Gary Thompson Jr. and wife Debbie of Brookings, SD, Sherri Ehlers and husband Bruce of Mason City, Margaret Thurmond of Newport Beach, CA, Dennis ODonnell and wife Kay of Woodinville, WA, Michael ODonnell and wife Lou Ann of Arlignton, TX, Terry ODonnell and wife Lee Ann of Arlington, TX, Brian ODonnell and wife Janna of Katy, TX, Chelsi ODonnell of Mason City; several great, great great, and great great great grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Hawkins and wife Elizabeth of Beatrice, NE; and one sister, Betty Johnson of Peru, IL and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands; Dale ODonnell in 1971 and E.C. Dopps in 1987; son, Ted ODonnell and his wife Nadine ODonnell; brothers, Jack Hawkins, Donald Hawkins, and William Hawkins and sisters, Marie Wise and Pansy Burza; grandson in infancy: Steven Thompson; son-in-law, Gary Thompson Sr.
