Darlys Vlantes

Darlys F. Vlantes, 52, of 215 Lakeview Drive, died Thursday, August 30, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 1, 2007, at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 2nd St. S.W., with Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday (August 31, 2007) at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. A Trisagion Service will be held at 6:00 PM at the church. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Darlys F. Vlantes Memorial Fund. Darlys was born March 1, 1955 in Mason City the daughter of Kenneth and Freda (Oleson) Stalheim. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1973 then attended and graduated from LaJames College of Hairstyling. Darlys married Nicholas Vlantes July 15, 1978 in Mason City. She was a self-employed Cosmetologist here in Mason City. Darlys was an active member of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church where she taught Sunday school. She was also active in Hoover Elementary School PTO and enjoyed playing racquetball at the YMCA. Her children and grandchildren were an important part of her life. She enjoyed baking around the holidays, attending her children?s athletic events and being ?Yiaya? to her grandchildren. Darlys is survived by her husband, Nicholas of Mason City; daughters, Nicole Meyer and husband Bradley of Rockwell, Christina DeNio and husband Andrew of Dows who are expecting their first child in February of 2008; son, Travis Vlantes of Mason City; grandchildren, Jayden Vlantes and Addison Meyer; step-grandchildren, Allysa, Aaron and Taryn Meyer; sister, Connie Morrison and husband Mitch of Mason City; brothers, Marlen Stalheim of Ames, Lyle Stalheim and Roger Stalheim and wife Karen of Winterset; many niece and nephews. Darlys is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Terry; mother and father-in-law, Helen and George Vlantes.
