MASON CITY David A. Hartema, age 52, of Mason City, died Friday, June 5, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Major Erickson Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Sokal of Hanford Community Church officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Casual attire, such as Hawkeye, Vikings, or Cubs clothing, is welcomed. Memorials may be directed to the David A. Hartema Memorial Fund in care of the family.\r\n
David was born on June 5, 1957, in Mason City, IA, the son of Lawrence Hartema and Loretta Krambeer. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam Era before earning his GED from Mason City High School. He later would attend North Iowa Area Community College. David was employed a Curries during the last years of his life. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings, and Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed playing softball, an occasional beer, and spending time with his granddaughter. \r\n
David is survived by his father, Lawrence of Berwyn, IL; his mother, Loretta Martin of Mason City; his daughter, Heather (Troy); granddaughter, Ciara; sister, Cathy (Derek) Mezo of Bennett, CO; brothers, Larry Hartema, and Mark (Vickie) Martin, both of Mason City; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.\r\n
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
