David P. Dornbusch, 64, of 1469 6th Street SE, died of cancer, Thursday, October 5, 2006 at home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 ? 4th Street SE with Pastor Paul Nelson and Pastor Jeni Bohls officiating. Inurnment will take place in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue and continue on Tuesday at the church one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the David Dornbusch Memorial Fund. David was born June 1, 1942 in Waterloo, Iowa the son of Erich and Loretta (Oberman) Dornbusch. He was baptized June 21, 1942 and confirmed March 25, 1956 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Readlyn, Iowa. David married Valitha Sauerbrei August 27, 1967 also at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Readlyn. He was employed by Marshall & Swift for 34 ½ years retiring in April of 2004. David was a member of St. James Lutheran Church where he sang in the church choir and had served as church treasurer for 4 years. He had also sung in the choir at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. He was a long time organist for several churches having played for hundreds of weddings. David was past president of Lutheran Brotherhood Chapter 8575 and past president of Marshall & Swift Credit Union. He was also a 33 year member of the Clear Lake Lions Club, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and competed and finished 6 marathons. He enjoyed plants, garden club and goldfish. David is survived by his wife, Valitha of Mason City; daughters, Kris of Mason City, Lori Despenas and husband Peter of Mason City; grandchildren, Alex Despenas and wife Mandy of Mason City, Cole and Jenna Despenas of Scottsdale, Arizona; great grandchildren, Xander, Olivia, Dominic and Dane; brother, Erich Dornbusch and wife Mary Jo of Peyson, Arizona; many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; special pets, Tobie, Chuckie and Ranger and special friends Jan and Jerry Hackbart. David was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, 3 sisters-in-law and 4 brothers-in-law.
