David Harvey Shreve

It is with deep sorrow that we announce that David Shreve, 83, of Mason City, went to be with our Lord November 19, 2024, in the loving presence of his daughter, while listening to his favorite music. A celebration of life will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. Memorials may be sent as donations to the Humane Society of North Iowa.

David was born to Byrle and Dorothea (Jenney) Shreve on August 6, 1941, in Quincy, IL. He attended the Mason City Schools after his family moved to the area. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1959. He met his first wife, Sharon Smith, there, and they were united in marriage in August of 1961. They were blessed with two daughters, Candee and Carol. The couple would later divorce in 1977. David then married his second wife, Joan Gertrud Wurtzel, in 1978. They enjoyed 23 years together, mainly at their acreage in Doughtery, IA.

David Worked for Pat’s OK Tire in Clear Lake for many years and then moved to Eaton Corp. in Belmond, from where he retired.

David was a lover of dogs and cats and spent many hours in their companionship. He loved cars and loved watching NASCAR. He was also an avid gun enthusiast and enjoyed many hours target shooting. Other interests included gambling, bird watching, and gardening.

David is survived by his daughters, Candee (Loyd) Schamber, Carol (Brad) Frerichs and grandson, Chance Frerichs.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Byrle and Dorothea Shreve; brother, James Patrick (Pat) Shreve; wife, Joan Shreve; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
