Debbie (Wendel) Martin, 40, of Enid, Oklahoma,, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde and Kathy Janssen of Clear Lake, Iowa passed away early Sunday Morning, November 27, 2005. Debbie was in Altus, Oklahoma visiting friends and family when she died of complications of an ongoing medical condition. Services will be held in Altus, Oklahoma on Tuesday, November 29. Services will also be held in Mason City at Messiah Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 2. Visitation will be from 5:30-7:00 Thursday evening, December 1, at Major Erickson Funeral Home in Mason City. Debbie was born on May 26, 1965 to Don and Kathy Wendel in Mason City, Iowa. She attended schools in Mason City through the 11th grade and graduated from High School in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Debbie married John Perrott in March of 1987. Two sons, Brandon and Jeremy, were born to them. Debbie moved to Oklahoma and later married David Martin on June 29, 1996. Debbie along with her husband David and two sons have made their home in Enid, Oklahoma for several years. Debbie?s life was most fulfilling for her when she was with her husband and sons, and when family and friends were gathered for holidays and birthdays. Debbie enjoyed excitement and found that in playing bingo, shopping with her sisters, mother, and grandmother, and playing table games with family and friends. She always made these events fun for everyone with her infectious smile, laugh and good humor. Debbie also enjoyed her travels to meet family in Las Vegas and going on adventures with Grandma Groh when visiting Texas. In her youth Debbie was an outstanding and highly ranked gymnast. Her dreams of a career as a gymnast were suddenly brought to an end when she was struck by an automobile while riding a moped with a friend at age fourteen. The effects of this injury plagued her throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her father Donald Wendel who died suddenly of a heart condition on Thanksgiving eve when Debbie was eighteen years old. She also was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Willard and Bernice Wendel, her maternal grandfather Karl Groh, her step-grandmother, Blanche Janssen and uncle, Ken Alert. Debbie is survived by her husband David Martin, sons Brandon and Jeremy Perrott of Enid, Oklahoma, her mother Katharine and stepfather Clyde Janssen of Clear Lake, Iowa; three sisters and their husbands and families Lynn (Jason) Wise of Mason City, Iowa, Diana (Eric) Tate of Altus, Oklahoma, and Kimber (Jim) Cuthbertson of Aurora, Illinois, maternal grandmother Doris Groh, Mason City, Iowa. Step sisters, Kay (Scott) Grein, Clear Lake, Iowa, Annette (Mike) Thompson, Des Moines, Iowa, and step brother, Dave (Teresa) Janssen. Mother and Father-in-law, Don and Rita Martin, and sister-in-law Cheryl Avant and her son Jeremy. Special friend Ladonna Robertson and her family of Altus, Oklahoma. Debbie also has numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who adored her because of her ability to relate with them on their terms.
