MASON CITY ? Deborah J. Lucas, 38 of Mason City died Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services for Deborah will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 19, 2005 at First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia Avenue with Rev. Jim Stiles and Rev. Jo Frahm Watkins officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 ? 7 PM on Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church ? Chancel Choir or Comprehensive Systems. Deborah was born April 1, 1967 in Mason City the daughter of Bernard and Peggy J. (Phelan) Lucas. She attended Nora Springs ? Rock Falls Schools. Deborah then attended Mason City School Special Education Program and graduated from Mason City High School in 1986. Following graduation she lived in the Comprehensive Systems group home progressing to live in her own apartment. Deborah held several jobs including NIVC, Hy-Vee West and then worked for Kraft Foods for several years. She enjoyed her work and all the people there and continued to work there until her health prevented her from returning. Deborah was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mason City where she participated in the Chancel Choir. She also swam in the Special Olympics in Ames several times receiving many medals and ribbons. Deborah enjoyed doing word finds and latch-hooking. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved to travel through the many opportunities that were provided to her through Comp Systems. Deborah loved people and loved to socialize with all of her many friends and family. Strong hugs were common, birthdays were especially important celebrations for her. She is survived by her parents: Bernard and Peggy Lucas of Nora Springs; brothers, Randy W. Lucas and wife Susan L. and their children, Matthew, Becky and Jennifer all of Nora Springs, Timothy J. Lucas and wife Betty and their children Erin, Brittanie, Abby and Thomas all of Mason City; aunts and uncles, Don and Letha Phelan of Coeur d?Alene, Idaho; Ellanora Rippee of Humbolt; Carl H. Lucas and wife Darlene of Mason City; special friend, Kevin Kliven of Mason City and many special cousins and dear friends. Deborah was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jack and Katherine Phelan and her paternal grandparents, Herman W. and Auguste Lucas and her uncle, J.R. Rippee.
