Mason City, Iowa - Debra (Deb) Suzanne Faught, 49, died Thursday (June 3, 2010) at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City following a two year long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease). Visitation for Deb will be Sunday, June 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Major Erickson Funeral home in Mason City. Her funeral will be held Monday, June 7, at 1:00 p.m. at Major Erickson Funeral Home 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave with with the Rev. Art Zewert officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Deb Faught, the daughter of Gary and Deloris Faught, was born on October 10, 1960, in Carroll, Iowa. At the age of 3 the family moved to Mason City. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1979. Deb then attended NIACC. After NIACC she graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in medical technology. Following graduation Deb worked at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin, Minnesota for 4 years. She then moved to Iowa City and was employed as a medical technologist for 22 years at the University of Iowa Hospitals. Her co-workers there became not just close friends, but also her second family. Deb was diagnosed with ALS in 2008 and due to her illness moved to the Nora Springs Care Center this past February.
Deb enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Her travels included trips to Hawaii, London, Mexico, and the Caribbean. After her ALS diagnosis she took the trip of a lifetime to Australia and New Zealand. Debs caring and generous heart will be missed by all those close to her.
Deb is survived by her parents, Gary and Deloris Faught of Mason City; a sister, Diane Quail of Forest City; a nephew, Cory Quail of Mason City; and her many friends and co-workers in Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, and by her nephew, Nathan Quail.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Deb Faught Memorial Fund where contributions will be distributed toward ALS research and to programs for suicide prevention and loss
